Cookie Policy
1. Introduction
This Cookie Policy explains how PopupBoost ("PopupBoost," "we," "us," or "our"), developed by Grinduck, uses cookies and similar tracking technologies when you use the PopupBoost app (the "App") or when visitors interact with popups displayed on Shopify stores using our Service.
This policy should be read together with our Privacy Policy and Terms of Service.
2. What Are Cookies?
Cookies are small text files placed on a device (computer, smartphone, or tablet) when a website or application is accessed. They are widely used to make websites and applications work more efficiently and to provide information to the owners of the site or app.
Similar technologies include:
- Local storage: Data stored in the browser that persists across sessions
- Session storage: Data stored temporarily for a single browser session
- Pixels/web beacons: Small transparent images used to track activity
3. How PopupBoost Uses Cookies
PopupBoost uses cookies and similar technologies for the following purposes:
3.1 Essential / Functional Cookies
These cookies are necessary for the App to function properly. They include:
- Popup display control: Tracking whether a visitor has already seen or interacted with a popup to prevent repeated display
- Frequency capping: Enforcing display rules configured by the Merchant (e.g., show once per session, once per day)
- Session management: Maintaining the Merchant's login session in the PopupBoost dashboard
- Spin wheel state: Remembering whether a visitor has already spun the wheel to prevent multiple spins
These cookies are strictly necessary and cannot be disabled without impacting App functionality.
3.2 Performance / Analytics Cookies
These cookies help us understand how the App is used and how popups perform:
- Popup impression tracking: Counting how many times a popup is displayed
- Conversion tracking: Measuring how many visitors interact with popups (clicks, form submissions, spin results)
- Dashboard analytics: Understanding how Merchants use App features to improve the Service
- Error monitoring: Detecting and diagnosing technical issues
3.3 Preference Cookies
These cookies remember choices you make to provide a more personalized experience:
- Language preferences: Displaying popups in the visitor's preferred language
- Dashboard settings: Remembering Merchant preferences in the App dashboard
4. Cookies Set by PopupBoost
The following types of cookies may be set by PopupBoost:
- pb_shown_[id]: Records whether a specific popup has been shown to a visitor. Duration varies based on Merchant configuration.
- pb_session: Maintains session state for popup display rules. Expires at end of browser session.
- pb_spin_[id]: Records spin wheel interaction to prevent duplicate spins. Duration set by Merchant.
- pb_closed_[id]: Records that a visitor has closed a popup. Duration varies.
- pb_converted: Records that a visitor has completed a popup action (e.g., submitted email). Duration varies.
5. Third-Party Cookies
PopupBoost may use third-party services that set their own cookies:
- Shopify: As the App operates within the Shopify platform, Shopify may set its own cookies according to its cookie policy
- Analytics providers: If we use third-party analytics tools, they may set cookies to help us analyze App performance
- Merchant integrations: If a Merchant connects PopupBoost to third-party tools (e.g., email marketing platforms), those services may set their own cookies
We do not control third-party cookies. Please refer to the respective third party's cookie or privacy policy for more information.
6. Cookie Duration
Cookies used by PopupBoost fall into two categories:
- Session cookies: Temporary cookies that are deleted when you close your browser. Used for session management and temporary state.
- Persistent cookies: Cookies that remain on your device for a set period or until manually deleted. Used for popup frequency control and remembering interactions.
The duration of persistent cookies varies based on the Merchant's popup configuration (e.g., "show once per week" requires a cookie lasting 7 days).
7. Managing Cookies
7.1 Browser Settings
You can manage cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to:
- View cookies stored on your device
- Delete individual or all cookies
- Block cookies from specific or all websites
- Set preferences for first-party vs. third-party cookies
Common browser cookie management links:
- Chrome: Settings > Privacy and Security > Cookies
- Firefox: Settings > Privacy & Security > Cookies
- Safari: Preferences > Privacy
- Edge: Settings > Cookies and Site Permissions
7.2 Impact of Disabling Cookies
If you disable cookies related to PopupBoost:
- Popups may appear more frequently than intended
- Spin wheel results may not be saved, allowing repeated spins
- Previously dismissed popups may reappear
- Some App features may not function correctly
8. Merchant Responsibilities
If you are a Merchant using PopupBoost, you are responsible for:
- Informing your store visitors about the use of cookies, including those set by PopupBoost
- Obtaining any required consent for non-essential cookies under applicable laws (e.g., GDPR, ePrivacy Directive)
- Including information about PopupBoost cookies in your store's cookie policy or privacy policy
- Implementing a cookie consent mechanism on your store if required by law
9. Changes to This Cookie Policy
We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. When changes occur:
- The "Last Updated" date will be revised
- Significant changes may be communicated within the App or via email
Continued use of the App constitutes acceptance of the updated Cookie Policy.
